Fires in Quebec
Fires in Quebec
Complex wildfire burning in Quebec, near the shoreline of James Bay, which forms the southern tip of Hudson Bay. When combined with typical smoke plumes, as seen in this image, such hotspots indicate active wildfires. Winds push thick smoke plumes to the northeast.

Smoke from forest fires in Quebec has moved over Labrador City and is expected to reach the Upper Lake Melville area this morning. Environment Canada say the smoke will cause reduced visibility at times and may result in poor air quality. The smoke is expected to move southward later today.

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, Inc on July 02 a total of 305 fires had consumed 730,959 acres in Quebec this fire season.
Last year (2012), there were a total of 397 fires which burned 68,812 acres.

Fires Russia
Many fires continue to burn in central Russia with tremendous quantities of smoke across the region.
In this image, most of the fires appear to be burning in Tomskaya, Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai. Smoke pours to the south and curls across Omsk.
The density of the smoke and the high number of fires in this region is remarkable, however, many other fires continue to blaze across Russia, far too many to be captured on one image.
