In support of the European GMES initiative, the Partners of the SPOT VEGETATION Programme decided to take an additional step with respect to the new data distribution policy as already announced in October 14-15th 2001.
At the Belgian EU Presidency GMES Conference held in Brussels on 14-15 October 2001 it was already announced that the VEGETATION TEN-DAY synthesis archive is freely accessible through the website of the VEGETATION Programme at http://www.spot-vegetation.com or directly via the free S10 distribution server http://free.vgt.vito.be which is hosted by VITO, with the support of the OSTC.
The VEGETATION Steering Committee now is proud to announce that also the
Other VEGETATION Products
will be freely available for scientific purposes and demonstration activities in order to stimulate the development of products and services that contribute to GMES and that provide decision makers with high level information on the state of the global environmental resources.
Detailed practical information will soon be available on the VEGETATION website at http://www.spot-vegetation.com. You may submit your scientific or demonstration project in compliance with the information soon available on this website and receive your required VEGETATION Products.
Since its successful launch onboard the SPOT 4 satellite in March 1998, the VEGETATION instrument is dedicated to the daily observation of terrestrial ecosystems and the biosphere, particularly for addressing global change and environment issues. The decision of the VEGETATION Programme to launch VEGETATION 2 onboard SPOT 5 in April 2002, further guarantees the continuation of the VEGETATION mission until 2008.
The VEGETATION Programme is a joint initiative of the European Commission, France, Belgium, Sweden and Italy. OSTC, CNES and SNSB support the operational phase of the Programme. All VEGETATION products are Copyright CNES, distributed by Spot Image (France) and its sublicensees EOWorks (Belgium), Metria (Sweden) and Telespazio (Italy) and produced by VITO (Belgium).
