Tasmania is shrouded in smoke as bushfires burn out on control. From Montumana in the north till Hobarto in the south east there are around 40 bushfires continue to burn across the state.

Many fires continue to burn in central Russia with tremendous quantities of smoke across the region.
In this image, most of the fires appear to be burning in Tomskaya, Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai. Smoke pours to the south and curls across Omsk.
The density of the smoke and the high number of fires in this region is remarkable, however, many other fires continue to blaze across Russia, far too many to be captured on one image.

Firefighters battled Monday to contain several large blazes that have burned hundreds of square miles of rural Texas and destroyed dozens of homes since last week, getting reinforcements from out of state as they struggled against some of the worst wildfire conditions in state history.

High temperatures and dry weather are hampering efforts to extinguish a host of wildfires across Portugal. Some blazes have been brought under control, but a string of villages and the ancient city of Coimbra remain threatened by about a dozen fires. Villagers returning to their homes have described how fires tore through some 140,000 hectares and destroyed homes. A summer of drought has sparked fires across southern Europe, with Spain and France also fighting flames.(BBC news)
